Box Score Claremont, Calif. - The season-opener for the 2013 Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team was suspended in the bottom of the seventh with the Sagehens leading Pacific (Ore.) 2-1.
The game will pick up where it left off tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by the regularly-scheduled doubleheader.
Sophomore pitcher Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif.) took a no-hitter into the seventh in his first game of the year before allowing a one-out single. The Boxers followed with a double and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 2-1, before senior Guy Stevens (Lafayette, Calif.) came on in relief to get a routine flyout to end the inning.
The Sagehens had a runner on first and one out after a single from senior first baseman Nick Gentili (Glendale, Calif.) with Bruml up, when a hailstorm (hail pictured on blanket) came through. The field was left unplayable and the game was halted in progress.
The game was nearly halted in the second inning amid heavy rain, but the teams were able to play through it and get several innings in dry conditions before the sudden hailstorm.
Senior outfielder Mike Moyer (Oakland, Calif.) had an RBI double in the first and Bruml had a lineout to center for a sacrifice fly in the third to account for the Pomona-Pitzer runs.
