Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Maddy DeMeules, Vicky Gyorffy, Nola Shi and Alex Lincoln (pictured) won the final freestyle relay to give the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swimming and Diving team a narrow 122-117 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
The Sagehens trailed 113-109 heading into the final relay, but the 11 points earned by the relay team was enough to provide the final margin of victory. DeMeules got the relay team off to a 1.3 second lead in the first leg, and Gyorffy and Shi added to it in the second and third leg, taking the drama out of Lincoln's final leg.
Lincoln helped keep the Sagehens in striking distance with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.35) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.13). Lincoln was also followed in the 100 by teammates Kristen Lindbergh and DeMeules as the Sagehens swept all 15 points in the event (nine for first, four for second, two for third).
Jackie Tran earned a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.75) and Sarah Tuggy won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.74) by two-tenths of a second.
The Sagehens will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Redlands in another SCIAC meet at 10:30 a.m.
