Claremont, Calif. - Kelsey Atkinson, Jackie Tran and Charlotte Dohrn finished 1-2-3 in the 100-yard butterfly to help set up a come-from-behind 156-142 win over Redlands in a SCIAC Women's Swimming & Diving meet on Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
The win improves the Sagehens to 4-1 in dual meets this season, including 3-1 against SCIAC opponents.
Pomona-Pitzer trailed with three events to go, but Atkinson (pictured) won the butterfly in a time of 1:02.02, with Tran and Dohrn right behind to give the Sagehens a total of 16 points in the event, putting them ahead 132-130 with two events to go.
Nola Shi then followed with a big win in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:15.19, but Redlands finished in the second and third spots to stay within striking distance at 143-138, heading into the final freestyle relay.
The Sagehens, though, would not be denied as Kristen Lindbergh, Vicky Gyorffy, Larissa Nakatsu and Alex Lincoln combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay by half a pool length for the 11 points needs to clinch the meet, touching the wall in a final time of 3:39.90.
Lincoln had a big day overall for the Sagehens by winning the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events, with Gyorffy coming in second in the 200. Lincoln finished just six-hundreths of a second out of first place in the 50-yard freestyle as well. Gyorffy also had a key win in the 1000-yard freestyle (and finished second in the 500-yard), as she swam extended distances for the Sagehens all afternoon and still provided a strong performance in the final relay, winning her leg (second leg) by three full seconds.
Julia Ticus and Jackie Tran came in first and second place in the women's 200-yard backstroke with times of 2:15.58 and 2:16.08.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend with a home meet against Caltech at 10:30 a.m.
