The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens took on the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran this past Saturday at Haldeman Pool. Despite close races throughout the meet, the men's team sent out the seniors with a victory at their last home competition. Behind victories in both diving events as well as five of the swimming events, the Sagehens prevailed 133-108 on Senior Day.
Starting off the meet was the Medley Relay of junior Max Scholten, senior Andrew Kinimaka, sophomore Tommy DePaoli and junior Joe LaBriola which swam to first place in a time of 3:40.35. J.P. Cumming followed up the victory in the Medley with his own in the mile in a season-best 17:18.93. Junior Chris Wright took out his 200 free in a strong 52.69 but could not hang on as he just got out-touched at the finish by Cal Lu's Grant East 1:48.86 to 1:48.87.
Max Scholten came back to take first in the 50 free with a time of 21.88 while Andrew Kinimaka, Tommy DePaoli and junior Tyson Chihara went 2-3-4 in the 200 IM. Senior Erik Peterson had the swim of the day as he came from behind and overtook Kyle Eckhart of Cal Lu at the 175 mark to win in a season-best 2:02.33, followed closely by Chris Wright and Eckhart who ended up third. Andrew Kinimaka finished second in the 100 free in a season-best 49.06 to Cal Lu's Grant East. Max Scholten and Joe LaBriola went 1-2 in the 200 back in season-bests 1:56.96 and 2:03.69. Ryan Higgins and J.P. Cumming finished 2-3 in the 500 free while Tyson Chihara was the top finisher in the 200 breast for the Sagehens, coming in 3rd with a time of 2:27.10. Closing out the meet was the Free Relay of Joe LaBriola, freshman Mark Berry, senior Matt Ward and Chris Wright with a second place showing in a time of 3:20.42.
The Sagehens finish up their season in two weeks at the SCIAC Championships, Feb. 20-22nd at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
