The Sagehens took on the Beavers of Caltech this past Saturday morning and came back with some impressive results. Victories in 11 of the 13 events and 1-2-3 finishes in seven of those victories buoyed the men's team to a convincing 178-61 victory.
The 400 Medley Relay of Junior All-American Max Scholten, Senior Andrew Kinimaka, Sophomore Tommy DePaoli, and Junior Joe LaBriola finished first in a time of 3:42.22. Freshman Ryan Higgins played a big role as a double event winner, taking first in the 1000 and 500 free at the meet in times of 11:04.27 and 5:05.49. Andrew Kinimaka followed up his relay victory with another win in the 200 free with a 1:49.70.
Joe LaBriola took first in the 50 free with a 23.13 while Sophomore J.P. Cumming and Junior Tyson Chihara went 1-2 and raced to season best times in the 400 IM in 4:33.54 and 4:35.06 respectively. Tommy DePaoli took the 100 fly in a season-best 53.78 and J.P. came back after his strong 400 IM to post the top time in the 100 free with a 51.00. Joe LaBriola won his second individual event of the day by posting a solid 57.51 in the 100 back while backstroke specialist Max Scholten showed his versatility by winning the 100 breast in 1:02.56.
Finishing the meet up was the relay of Junior Chris Wright, J.P. Cumming, Junior Tom Cleveland and Max Scholten, swimming to victory in 3:25.97.
Next up for the Sagehens will be the Whitter Poets on Saturday, January 29.
