At Pomona-Pitzer: A three-time All-American through her junior year (twice in cross country, once in track)...Earned the highest finish for any Pomona-Pitzer cross country runner (men or women) in program history with a third-place finish in 2011...Also the runner-up in the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships in the 5000 meters...Holds the school record in cross country for the 6K (21:02)...Ranks second in program history in the 1500 (4:34.79), 5000 (16:53.54), and 10000 (36:48.06) in outdoor track, as well as ninth in the 800 meters (2:18.42)...Did not run distance events as a freshman.
2012 (Cross Country): NCAA All-West Region...Finished seventh at the NCAA West Regionals in her first race in over a month, due to a hip injury, crossing the line in 21:29.28...Qualified for nationals, but missed the race in order to attend an interview as a Rhodes Scholarship finalist...Finished in fifth (5K) at the UC Irvine Open with a 19:20.0, before her injury flared up.
2012 (track): First-team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American selection...All-SCIAC (5000 meters)...Came off of foot surgery in the offseason and just missed qualifying for nationals in the 5000 meters (after finishing second as a sophomore) with a fast time of 17:17 at the Occidental Invitational...Her fast time was nearly 30 seconds off her pace as a sophomore, when she was fully healthy...Her time was good enough to qualify until she was passed by several runners on the final weekend...Withdrew halfway through her final race with a hip injury, potentially costing her a chance to qualify...Finished third in the SCIAC Championships...Ran a competitive 10K for the first time in her career and had the second fastest time in program history (36:48.06).
2011 (cross country): All-American (third at nationals)...NCAA West Region Runner of Year (champion)...SCIAC Runner of Year (champion)...Finished third at the NCAA Division III Cross Country championships, the highest finish in Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country history (men or women)...Finished with a time of 21:02 at nationals, breaking her own program record in the 6K...Won individual titles the NCAA West Region Championship, the SCIAC Championship, the SCIAC Multi-Duals Championship, and the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational...Named the SCIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Year and the USTFCCCA West Region Runner of the Year.
2011 (track): All-American (second in 5K at nationals)...SCIAC Champion (5K)...Earned All-America honors in the spring when she finished second in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships...Led coming down the homestretch, but was edged out at the finish line...Recorded the second-fastest time in the 5K in school history at the Occidental Invitational (16:53.54).
2010 (cross country): All-American (ninth at nationals)...SCIAC Runner of Year...West Region Runner of Year...Finished ninth at the NCAA Division III Cross Country championships in her first year of running cross country competitively, which was then the highest finish in Pomona-Pitzer Women's Cross Country history...Won the NCAA West Region championship and the SCIAC Multi-Duals Championship.
2009-10 (track): All-SCIAC (800 meters)...Only ran in one race in cross country before ending her season with a foot injury...Competed in the 800 meters in the outdoor track season, coming in fifth at the SCIAC Championships.
High School: Attended the American School of Singapore, where she competed in track and field as a hurdler...Personal: Attends Pomona College, where she majors in PPE (philosophy, politics and economics)...Rhodes Scholarship finalist...Grew up in Japan and Singapore as an American citizen...Father works in the Asian financial markets...Aspires to travel to one new country for every year she's alive...Had a summer internship at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium in the summer of 2011...Interned in the U.S. State Department in the summer of 2012 under Hillary Clinton...Also spent her previous summers teaching English to children in Bhutan, working for a non-profit in Cambodia, and living with a Maori tribe in New Zealand...Wants to pursue a career in international diplomacy after graduation.
Loves to run because "I love how I feel after a workout. While you are running, it can feel incredibly difficult, but if you can elevate yourself above the pain then the post-workout high is totally worth it."
Enjoys the Pomona-Pitzer women's cross country team because "I like how the team has really started to become a family. As cheesy as it sounds, the support from the other girls really helps you get through both tough workouts and tough days in general."
