Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Men's Water Polo Defeats Cal Lutheran, Ventura College at Home

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo defeated Cal Lutheran 14-11 and Ventura College 15-9 Saturday at Haldeman Pool. 
 
Season Impact: The wins put the Sagehens at 3-5 on the season, including 1-0 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer came from behind to defeat the Kingsmen in its SCIAC opener, thanks in large part to a hat trick from Chase Barman and two goals each from Indigo Lee, Michael Soybel and Miles Chiang. Soybel and Lee each added a pair of assists while Jake Lee also dished out two assists. Leo DiLascia posted six saves in goal over 13 minutes while Greg Moore had three. 
 
Teams traded goals to start the game, with Max Distaso and Chiang each scoring as the game remained tied 2-2 through the first quarter. Each team added a score in the second, with a Barman goal tying the game 3-3 at halftime. 
 
Cal Lutheran took a 6-4 lead midway through the third. But the Sagehens responded with three unanswered, as Jaden Winters, Darragh Flanders and Chiang each found the back of the net to put Pomona-Pitzer back on top, 7-6. Teams then traded goals, with a Kingsmen score to start the fourth quarter tying the game back up, 8-8. 
 
The Sagehens again scored three unanswered to open the final quarter, including back-to-back goals from Soybel. Pomona-Pitzer held on as teams traded goals the rest of the way. A Zach Whitfield score with 12 seconds left sealed the Sagehens' 14-11 win.

Ryan Kreutzkamp led Pomona-Pitzer versus the Pirates with a hat trick on three shots. John Shafer and Hudson Schneider each posted a pair of assists and a goal. Justin Topol notched five saves in goal. 
 
The Sagehens opened the game with a 4-1 run, thanks to goals from Alex Minton, Kreutzkamp, Siegel and Nick Grandinetti. The Pirates responded with a pair before Shafer found the back of the net, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 5-3 advantage through the first. Kreutzkamp and Tommy Ryan each scored in the second as the Sagehens led 8-4 at the half. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer scored three unanswered to open the third quarter, with goals from Schneider, Dylan Bird and Tiernan Braun. Kai Baker, Ryan, Tucker Gavin and John Plaschke each scored in the final period as the Sagehens came away with the 15-9 victory. 
 
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will travel across the street to take on Sixth Street Rival CMS on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:00 p.m. PT.
