PASADENA, CA. – The Sagehens fell 1-0 to Caltech on Saturday afternoon in a tightly contested SCIAC matchup.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are 4-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer created several chances throughout the opening half, with Aidan MacLennan recording three shots, including two early attempts, while Enzo Dal Bo and Guy Fuchs also created opportunities. Gavin Honey and the Sagehens' defense kept Caltech off the scoreboard, sending the teams into halftime scoreless.
The Sagehens continued to pressure early in the second half, with MacLennan and Nate McGlinchey each forcing saves. Keisho Uchida received a yellow card in the 63rd minute as the physical match continued. Caltech broke through in the 64th minute to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Pomona-Pitzer responded with several chances immediately after, including a shot from MacLennan that hit the post before another attempt was blocked. The Sagehens continued to push for an equalizer, with Charles Leonard, Ryo Kasai and Quinn Rice all creating chances. Honey kept Pomona-Pitzer within one with saves in the 73rd minute and the 85th minute. Pomona-Pitzer earned two late corner kicks and continued to pressure Caltech's defense, but the Sagehens were unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle. Caltech held on for the 1-0 victory.
