CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens opened up the 2026 season with a a 5-0 shutout victory over Nelson University on Tuesday night at home.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens start the season 1-0-0.
The Sagehens got on the board in the 28' minute when Aidan MacLennan found the back of the net to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead. MacLennan continued to make an impact in the first half, recording another shot in the 30' minute as the Sagehens carried their advantage into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer came out strong in the second half, scoring four more goals. Ryo Kasai doubled the lead in the 62' minute off an assist from Macky before adding his second goal just over three minutes later in the 65' minute. MacLennan then scored his second of the game in the 70' minute, assisted by Kasai, before Eli Booth capped the scoring with a goal in the 82' minute. The Sagehens also controlled possession and continued to create chances throughout the second half, with Kasai recording another shot in the 64' minute, Jedi Scott adding a shot in the 65' minute, and Nate McGlinchey finishing with three second-half shots. Defensively, Gavin Honey and Josh Goldhaber split time in goal for the Sagehens and kept Nelson off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes to secure the shutout. Pomona-Pitzer finished the match with a 5-0 victory.
