Eight Sagehens Named IWLCA All-Region Nods

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse earned eight IWLCA All-Region selections, the association announced Friday. 
 
Caili Cross, Taylor Glanville, Maihue Miranda Wiltberger, Izzy Sabatino and Shelby Stanton were all selected as First Team members. River Buechner, Chloe Denhart and Piper Higgins each earned Second Team nods. 
 
Stanton was named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year after leading Pomona-Pitzer to another unbeaten mark in conference play while allowing just 5.3 goals per game. Miranda Wiltberger was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year and ranked second in the nation in draw controls with 9.7 per game as a starting two-way midfielder for the Sagehens. 
 
Cross scored a team-high 40 goals this season to go with 18 assists. Glanville found the back of the net 29 times and dished out eight assists. Sabatino helped Stanton anchor the Pomona-Pitzer's defense, causing 17 turnovers and picking up 17 ground balls. 
 
Higgins scored 37 times and posted 19 assists throughout the season. Denhart caused a team-high 30 turnovers and picked up 30 ground balls, while Buechner picked up 32 ground balls to go with 28 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. 
 
The Sagehens won their fifth consecutive SCIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships this season. Pomona-Pitzer currently holds a 17-1 record and will play next in the NCAA Third Round tomorrow, Saturday, May 16, against Trinity College in Connecticut.
