Lacrosse Defeats Linfield 22-1

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team secured a 22-1 victory over Linfield University at home on Tuesday evening.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continur their season strong at 9-1 overall and 5-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Birdie Hawkins and Madelyn Katz, who each recorded a hat-trick. Caili Cross, Carly Katzman, and Piper Higgins each also had a multi-goal game, picking up two goals. Also contributing to the win, Maria Favret, Madeleine Trapp, Chloe Denhart, Shelby Stanton, ZZ Sayeed, Taylor Glanville, Ruby Gibbs, Nora LeBlanc, Audrey Jacklyn, and River Buechner earned one each.

The Sagehens started the match off strong and earned twelve goals in the first half – six both in the first and second quarters. Katzman started the scoring and earned an early goal with 12:47 left in the first period. Trapp soon followed and picked up a goal at the 12:26 mark, and Katzman scored another one at the 7:10 mark with a player disadvantage. Higgins then added another one to the Sagehen score and earned a goal with 6:05 left in the period. Katz furthered the Sagehen efforts and scored a goal at the 4:00 mark, and Glanville picked up a last-minute goal at the 0:46 mark to strengthen the lead. Pomona-Pitzer concluded the first period ahead of Linfield 6-0. Higgins started the scoring in the second quarter and earned an early goal with 13:46 left on the clock. Cross then scored a goal at the 13:09 mark, and Buechner soon followed and secured a goal at the 10:44 mark. Cross scored another goal with 9:06 left in the period, and Hawkins picked up one with 6:00 left on the clock. While the Wildcats managed to break through the Sagehen defenses and score, Sayeed continured the offense and earned a goal at the 2:11 mark. The Sagehens entered halftime with a 12-1 lead.

Favret started the scoring in the second half and earned a goal with 13:32 left in the third quarter. Hawkins followed suit and picked up one at the 11:26 mark, and Katz scored a goal at the 9:16 mark. Hawkins and Jacklyn also furthered the Sagehen scoring and secured goals with 7:39 and 5:55 left on the clock, respectively. Stanton also got in the scoring collumn and earned a goal at the 2:00 mark. Pomona-Pitzer maintained extended their lead 18-1 as they entered the final quarter.

The Sagehens continued pressuring Linfield throughout the end of the match. Katz started the scoring in the fourth quarter and scored an early goal with 14:47 left in the period. Leblanc followed and earned a goal at the 11:55 mark, and Denhart picked up one at the 9:50 mark. Gibbs added to the Pomona-Pitzer lead and secured a goal with 1:21 left on the clock. The Sagehens kept their energy going through the end of the match and ended with a 22-1 victory over the Wildcats.
