CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens men's tennis fell short to John Hopkins 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at home.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three courts to take the early 1-0 lead. Jay Mallampati and Drew Goldman earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Leo Rocca and Kiran Vairavanathan followed with a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 2. Neil Chulani and Sam English completed the sweep with a tightly contested 7-6 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Johns Hopkins responded by winning four of six matches to secure the team victory. Goldman continued his strong day with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, and Tanner Ige added another point for the Sagehens at No. 5 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory. Johns Hopkins earned wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 singles, including a pair of three-set battles at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions. Despite the doubles sweep, the Sagehens were edged in singles play as Johns Hopkins secured the 4-3 team result.
