2026 Baseball Season Preview

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer baseball team looks to build off back-to-back NCAA postseason appearances as it opens the 2026 campaign with a weekend series against Pacific University at Alumni Field, Feb. 6-7.
 
The 2026 Schedule
 
The Sagehens host seven non-conference opponents this season as Pacific, Whitworth, Kalamazoo, Whitman, Chicago, Bridgewater and Pacific Lutheran make their way to Southern California. The team's first SCIAC series comes against Chapman Feb. 20-21 as Pomona-Pitzer hosts the Panthers before heading to Orange for a Saturday doubleheader. The Sagehens close out the regular season May 1-2 against Occidental, traveling for a single Friday game and hosting the Tigers in a Saturday doubleheader. 
 
Key Returners
 
Pomona-Pitzer brings back 15 upperclassmen from last year's roster, including 2025 All-American and SCIAC Athlete of the Year Jack Gold. Gold and Cooper Berry were also named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team members last season. The Sagehens return six position players who played in over 30 games in 2025, including Gold, Berry, Lateef Wakil, Tanner DeGrazia, Greg Pierantoni and Sammy Lee
 
Gold, a 2026 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, slashed .346/.505/.752 last season with 54 RBI, 15 homers, 13 doubles and a pair of triples. Berry started all 49 games at third base in 2025 and slashed .319/.433/.610 with 59 RBI, 17 doubles and 12 homers. Starting 35 games in right field last year, Wakil batted .316 with 29 RBI. Pierantoni posted 39 RBI and a .940 fielding percentage in 49 starts at shortstop while DeGrazia notched 23 RBI and slashed .309/.485/.447 over 31 games in 2025. Starting 30 games at either catcher or DH, Lee posted 18 RBI with a pair of homers last season.  
 
Pitching Staff
 
The Sagehens return a pair of key 2025 starters in Jack Wiessinger and Max Brunngraber as well as a number of bullpen arms from last season, including Wade Lawson, Justin Zerger and Eli Della Bitta. Wiessinger made 12 starts last year with a 5.47 ERA and 54 strikeouts, also recording the team's first no-hitter in 10 years against Cal Lutheran. Brunngraber had 11 starts with a 6.67 ERA and 36 strikeouts last season. 
 
Lawson secured a 3.33 ERA in 2025 with 16 bullpen appearances, while Zerger had a 4.56 ERA in 15 outings and Della Bitta a 5.00 ERA in 16. Will Polishuk posted four starts last season while Lucas Dennis made six appearances out of the pen. Pomona-Pitzer will add nine new arms to the mix this season, including seven freshmen. 
 
Newcomers
 
Pomona-Pitzer features 15 newcomers this season, including 13 freshmen. The Sagehens will look for big contributions from Will Parker (C), Lincoln Oelschlager (UT), Landon Hu (IF), Talen Pilz (RHP/3B) and Devin Saltzgaber (LHP), among others. 
 
The Season
 
After advancing to the NCAA Regional Final a season ago and the College World Series in 2024, the Sagehens were picked to finish in a tie atop the SCIAC standings in the 2026 preseason conference poll along with Sixth Street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. 2025 SCIAC Champion La Verne was picked to finish third. Pomona-Pitzer will meet the Leopards Mar. 20-21 this season and the Stags on Apr. 10-11.
 
Additionally, the Sagehens will play in the first game ever at ONT Field, new home of the Dodgers' Single-A affiliate Ontario Tower Buzzers, on Mar. 25 in a sub-varsity game against Chapman. Pomona-Pitzer will also face the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Single-A affiliate of the Angels, in an exhibition game on Mar. 30 at LoanMart Field. 
 
The 2026 regular season gets underway this Friday, Feb. 6, as the Sagehens welcome Pacific University to Alumni Field at 2:00 p.m. before facing the Boxers in a Saturday doubleheader.
