CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Sagehens split the doubleheader against Lewis & Clark. The final score of game one ws 5-7 in favor of the River Otters and the final score of game two was 8-0 in favor of the Sagehens.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2–3 overall and 1–1 in SCIAC play.
Game One
Sagehens 5, Lewis & Clark 7
Kylie Liu led the Sagehens offensively with two home runs and five RBIs in the contest. Sadie Huryn and Yuri Song each reached base twice, while Gianna Phillips and Sophia Roberts contributed hits in the seventh-inning rally. Mia Lopez opened in the circle with Nyla Springer pitching 6.2 innings.
Lewis & Clark jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on an error and a three-RBI double to take a 4–0 advantage. The River Otters added two more runs in the third, highlighted by a solo home run and an RBI single, extending the lead to 6–0. A solo homer in the fourth pushed the margin to 7–2.
The Sagehens got on the board in the bottom of the third when Liu launched a two-run home run to score Huryn and cut the deficit to 6–2.
Trailing 7–2 entering the seventh, the Sagehens mounted a late rally. Ava Bautista led off the frame with a single, and Song followed with a base hit to put two on. Liu delivered again, blasting a three-run homer to bring Pomona-Pitzer within two at 7–5. Phillips and Roberts added singles to keep the pressure on, but Lewis & Clark recorded the final out to secure the win.
Game Two
Sagehens 8, Lewis & Clark 0
Marie Milton went 2-for-3 scoring two runs and notching one RBI while Sadie Huryn, Violet Burnham and Audrey Reimers added a hit. In the circle, Reimers struck out four and pitched all five innings.
The Sagehens struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Huryn led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly, and came around to score on a passed ball to give the Sagehens a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens added to their advantage in the second. Milton singled to start the frame, and after a walk from Burnham, Reimers delivered an RBI single through the left side to plate Milton and push the lead to 2–0. After holding Lewis & Clark scoreless through four innings, the Sagehens broke the game open in the fifth with a six-run outburst. The Sagehens capitalized on three River Otter errors in the inning, with RBI contributions from Milton and Natalie Murguia. Burnham provided the big swing of the frame, tripling to center field to drive in two runs and extend the lead to 8–0 ending the game in a mercy-rule.
