REDLANDS, CA. – The Sagehens earned a dominant 5-0 victory over the University of Redlands on Wednesday afternoon.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens are 8-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in SCIAC play.
Pomona-Pitzer came out strong from the opening whistle, creating several chances in the first 10 minutes. Brooke Bailey broke through in the ninth minute, finding the back of the net on a rebound to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead. Just over six minutes later, Vivian Rojas Collins doubled the lead when she finished a corner from Lucia Page Sander in the 16th minute. Sabina Peterson Rajalingam added another goal in the 24th minute, assisted by Ava Watanabe, putting Pomona-Pitzer ahead 3-0. The Sagehens continued to control the match, with Adriana Torres scoring in the 29th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. Pomona-Pitzer carried the four-goal advantage into halftime while continuing to create chances throughout the opening 45 minutes.
The Sagehens added to their lead just over a minute into the second half when Sophie Boatright scored her first collegiate goal, making it 5-0. Pomona-Pitzer continued to pressure throughout the second half, with Peterson Rajalingam hitting the crossbar and several additional chances coming from Page Sander, Ally Hsieh, Brooke and others. McKenna Tingley took over in goal for the second half and helped preserve the shutout. Pomona-Pitzer held Redlands scoreless through the final whistle to secure the 5-0 victory.
