WHITTIER, Calif. —
Michael Soybel scored four goals and
Indigo Lee added three as Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo pulled away to defeat Whittier 13-8 Wednesday night on the road.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 7-7 on the season, including 3-0 in SCIAC play.
Soybel's four goals came and Lee's three each came on six shots apiece.
Darragh Flanders contributed two goals while
Ryan Kreutzkamp,
Max Distaso,
Zach Whitfield and
Jaden Winters each scored one.
Leo DiLascia recorded eight saves and a .500 save percentage in goal.
Lee and Flanders each tallied a goal in the opening period as the Sagehens led 2-1. Soybel then scored in the second before Flanders found the back of the net again on a powerplay, with Pomona-Pitzer leading 4-3 at the half.
Teams continued to trade goals in the third, as Soybel, Distaso and Winters each scored to give the Sagehens an 8-6 advantage. Whittier hung around, scoring on its first possession of the fourth to stay within a goal, 8-7.
But Pomona-Pitzer started to pull away with goals from Soybel and Lee, giving the team a 10-7 lead with 5:24 to go. The Poets then scored but the Sagehens closed the game on a 3-0 run, with goals from Lee, Whitfield and Kruetzkamp sealing the 13-8 win.
