Sagehens' Win Streak Snapped With Loss At Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – Pomona-Pitzer's four-game winning streak ended Saturday afternoon at Ernie Chapman Stadium, where Chapman beat the Sagehens 35-2.

Season Impact: The Sagehens drop to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the SCIAC.

Freshman Dominick Catalano completed 12 of 22 passes for 82 yards. Donovan went 6-for-9 for 61 yards in relief, and Seese completed 5 of 11 passes for 48 yards. The Sagehens threw for 191 yards as a team.

Senior Jack Sobota led the receivers with four catches for 62 yards. Sophomore Will Black caught two passes for 36 yards, including a 28-yarder, and senior Brennan Dragomer had four receptions for 17 yards while junior Jackson Irons added three catches for 20 yards.

On defense, junior Leo Ryals led the team with 10 tackles. Juniors Cole Krawiec and Alden Kling each had seven stops, and Kling added two quarterback hurries. Along with the blocked PAT, Eastman made five tackles. Junior Colin Miller had four tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.

How It Happened

Chapman scored quickly. The Panthers went 83 yards in four plays on their opening possession, and Huss ran it in from 15 yards out for a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game. On Pomona-Pitzer's first possession, a fumble in the end zone gave Chapman a safety and a 9-0 lead.

The Sagehens' defense answered as Miller intercepted Brandt, and later in the first quarter the defense stopped the Panthers on downs at the Pomona-Pitzer 21.

Chapman's special teams broke the game open in the second quarter. Manzano returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown. A Panther interception and 46-yard return then set Chapman up at the Pomona-Pitzer 1, and Huss scored on the next play. On the extra point, junior Max Eastman blocked the kick. Freshman Ben Vaughn scooped it up and returned it 98 yards for a defensive two-point conversion, Pomona-Pitzer's only points of the day as Chapman led 22-2 at halftime.

The Panthers added to the lead in the third quarter with a 13-play, 80-yard drive that took 8:40 off the clock and ended with Brandt's 16-yard touchdown pass to Bruce. Anderson's 16-yard run in the fourth quarter made the final 35-2. The Sagehens put together an 11-play, 69-yard drive late in the game and reached the Chapman 1, but they did not score.
