THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell in straight sets 18-25, 24-26, 19-25) at Cal Lutheran Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 7-9 on the season, including 1-3 in SCIAC play.
Kayla Thienprasiddhi paced Pomona-Pitzer on offense versus the Regals with seven kills to go with five digs, while
Samantha Grabb had six kills with four digs.
Matsa Shi contributed 13 digs and a pair of kills while
Corrina Benson had 22 digs.
The Sagehens hung around early in set one, with a block from Thienprasiddhi and
CC Porter capping a 3-0 run to bring them within one, 11-10. But the Regals pulled away using a 6-0 run to bring it to game point and eventually taking set one, 25-18.
Trailing 12-7 in set two, Pomona-Pitzer used a 4-1 run to come back within two, 13-11, after a kill from Grabb. The Sagehens then tied the game at 16 and again at 18 after a
Mikayla Hsieh service ace. Cal Lutheran brought it to game point, 24-20, before a 4-0 Sagehen run capped by a Porter and Grabb block tied the game again at 24. But the Regals scored the next two to take set two, 26-24.
Pomona-Pitzer took an early 11-7 lead in set three, following a service ace from Shi. A Thienprasiddhi kill helped the Sagehens keep their lead, 13-10. The Regals scored five straight before teams traded points, with an
Anna Krebs kill keeping Pomona-Pitzer within one, 19-18. Cal Lutheran, though, closed the match on a 6-1 run to take set three and the match.
