CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell 3-0 to Whitworth and 3-1 to Redlands Friday night at home.
Season Impact: The results move the Sagehens to 2-3 on the season.
Sagehens 0, Whitworth 3 (23-25, 19-25, 23-25)
Samantha Grabb led the Sagehens with 11 kills against the Pirates on a .417 clip while
Paige Mountanos added 10 kills and 16 digs.
Corrina Benson also had 16 digs while
Savanna Cespedes dished out a team-best 18 assists.
Despite trailing 24-19 in the first set, Pomona-Pitzer fought back with four straight points behind a kill from
Natalie Potter. But the Sagehens ultimately fell short, 25-23. The Sagehens fought from behind for much of the second set, with a pair of Grabb kills late making it 24-18 Pirates before Whitworth took the second, 25-19. In the third, a 4-0 Pomona-Pitzer run made it 22-22. But the Pirates scored three of the next four points, taking the match 3-0.

Mountanos posted 16 kills in the loss to the Bulldogs with four blocks and four digs, while Grabb and
Tene Ariyo each had 12 kills.
Corrina Benson notched 16 digs while Cespedes again dished out a team-best 18 assists.
Pomona-Pitzer nearly came away with set one, as an Ariyo kill late gave the team a 23-22 lead. But the Bulldogs scored the game's final three points to take set one. The Sagehens then jumped out to an early lead in set two and held on throughout. Ariyo again made it 22-20 with a kill late before adding two more to seal the 25-22 set two win.
Redlands got out to a big lead early in the third set, going on to take it 25-11. In the fourth, the Sagehens led 21-19 late but couldn't quite hold on. Another Ariyo kill late kept the Sagehens in it at 24-23, but a Pomona-Pitzer service error gave the Bulldogs a 25-23 set four win and the match, 3-1.
