Sagehens Fall To Emory

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team put up a strong fight but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Emory on Saturday at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are now 1-6 overall.

The match opened with doubles play, where the Sagehens secured a key win at No. 1 doubles as Angie Zhou and Marissa Markey claimed a 6-4 victory. However, Emory responded by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, earning the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

The Sagehens looked to rally in singles play. Marissa Markey dominated at No. 3 singles with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory, while Amelia Poor followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5, helping the Sagehens even the score. Nyakiriri Kanefu delivered a clutch performance at No. 2, battling back to secure a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win.

Despite the Sagehens' strong efforts, Emory managed to clinch the match with wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles. Angie Zhou fought hard at No. 1 but fell in three sets, while Meha Chaudhary and Annique Varty came up just short in their matches.
