CLAREMONT, CA – Amherst secured a 6-1 victory over the Sagehens, winning two out of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are now 9-6 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC conference play.
In doubles, the Sagehens earned their lone win at the No. 1 spot, where Drew Goldman and Jay Mallampati cruised to a 6-2 victory. However, Amherst took the overall doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. In singles, the Sagehen's only bright spot came at the No. 1 position, where Drew Goldman earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory. The rest of the matches went Amherst's way. At No. 2, Ethan Lee battled but fell in three sets 2-6, 7,6, 0-1. At No. 3, Luke Feng, lost 4-6, 2-6. Sam English fell at No. 4 in another three-setter, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6. Neil Chulani fell 6-7, 1-6 at No. 5, and in a hard-fought match, Jay Mallampati at No. 6 lost 3-6, 7-5, 4-6.
With Amherst's strong singles play securing five straight-set wins, the Sagehens struggled to gain momentum, ultimately falling 6-1.
