Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team split its doubleheader with Redlands on the road Saturday, winning game one 6-1 before falling 11-0 in game two.

Season Impact: The results move the Sagehens to 7-4 on the season, including 4-2 in SCIAC play.

Sagehens 6, Redlands 1

Jimmy Legg paced the Sagehens on offense after going 2-4 from the plate with two RBIs. Six additional Sagehens tallied a hit including Jack Gold and Lateef Wakil, who both blasted solo homeruns. On the mound, Jack Wiessinger was credited with the win after going 7.0 innings with four strikeouts and just three hits. Ethan Collins fanned two and gave up just one hit in two 2.0 of relief.

Pomona-Pitzer took control early in the game, scoring two in the top of the second. Gold scored on a wild pitch before Xavier Hattenburg drove Peter Savas home with an RBI single to right field. Wakil sent his solo shot to right field in the fourth inning to put the Sagehens up 3-0.

Redlands scored its lone run of the game in the fifth inning to make it 3-1. But Gold homered to right and Legg drove in Wakil and Savas with a two-RBI single to left center in the sixth, giving the Sagehens a 6-1 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer's pitching continued to stifle the Bulldog offense down the stretch, as the Sagehens came away with the 6-1 win.

Sagehens 0, Redlands 11

Pomona-Pitzer struggled to find its rhythm offensively versus the Bulldogs in game two of the doubleheader, with Gold and William Kinney each tallying hits to lead the way. Jake Hilton started his first game of the season on the mound and went 2.0 innings, striking out three while giving up just three hits and no runs.

Redlands took its first lead in the third inning, scoring seven in the frame to go up 7-0. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth before scoring two more in the fifth, also tacking one on in the sixth and going on to seal the 11-0 win.
