Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. — The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell 78-49 at Whittier College Thursday night in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals.
Charlize Andaya led the Sagehens with a team-high 13 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor, to go with two rebounds.
Abigail Homan had 12 points, four rebounds and three blocks while
Emily Lee contributed eight points.
Whittier got out to a quick start in the game, taking an early 10-3 lead before
Emily Lee got a layup to fall.
Elsa Cottrell scored a basket in the paint as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Emily Lee scored five straight points and Homan scored a lay-in to bring the Sagehens within eight, 25-17, midway through the second period.
Jadyn Lee hit a jumper near the end of the half as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 31-20 at the break.
The Poets extended their lead, 45-29, midway through the third quarter before Homan got a pair of layups to fall.
Kayla Malek scored a layup of her own,
Katie Drais hit a three-pointer and Homan scored in the paint, but the Sagehens trailed 54-38 heading into the final quarter.
Whittier kept its foot on the gas in the final quarter, but Drais hit another three and Andaya nailed a jumper midway through the fourth. Andaya scored another pair of baskets down the stretch, but the Poets came away with the 78-49 win.
