CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team fell to CMS 90-77 on Saturday evening at Roberts Pavilion.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 13-10 overall and 7-7 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by
Joe Cookson who had a team-high 25 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Sam Lind was the only other Sagehen in double figures with 12 while Matthew Diekman chipped in with nine.
The Sagehen offense took a while to get going with the Stags jumping out to an 11-2 run within the first five minutes of the first half. Pomona-Pitzer erased the lead on three straight possessions with threes from
Owen Avdalovic, Diekman, and Lind to make it a one-point game at 16-15 with 9:43 until halftime. The Sagehens kept it close, but CMS extended their lead to six points with a few late baskets to take a 39-33 lead into halftime.
CMS started the second half well and reclaimed a double-digit lead at 53-41 four minutes into the second half. The Sagehens got the lead back down to one possession at 58-55, but the Stags started to rebuild their lead up 68-58 with 7:49 left to go. The Sagehens tried to close the gap late, but CMS kept Pomona-Pitzer from making a run to hand them their seventh loss in conference play.
