ORANGE, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball fell 80-68 to Chapman Saturday afternoon on the road.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 4-3 on the season, including 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Sam Lind paced Pomona-Pitzer offensively with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with six rebounds and two steals.
Matthew Diekmann posted 15 points while
Charlie Hutchison had 11 points and seven boards.
Lind knocked down a trey four minutes into the contest to tie things up at 11. Hutchison later completed a three-point play to bring the score to 21-19 with the Panthers leading. But Chapman scored 11 of the following 13 points to take a 32-21 advantage.
Diekmann scored in the paint to bring the Sagehens within two, 34-32, with 5:09 to go. The Panthers, though, used a 16-5 run to take a 50-37 lead into the locker room.
Teams traded baskets to start the second half, with Diekmann hammering home a fast-break dunk four minutes in to bring the score to 56-42 Panthers.
Charlie Treene knocked down a jumper to bring the Sagehens within seven, 58-51. Diekmann hit a jumper of his own with 9:27 to go to make it a four-point game, 61-57.
But Pomona-Pitzer couldn't quite get over the hump, as a 14-2 Chapman run gave the Panthers a 75-59 advantage with 5:08 remaining. Treene hit a three late but Chapman came away with the 80-68 win.
