PASADENA, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball cruised to an 78-65 win over Caltech Wednesday night on the road in its conference opener.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 4-3 on the season, including 1-0 in SCIAC play.
Three different Sagehens reached double figures in scoring, led by a team-high 17 points from Jadyn Lee. Sofia Robel followed with 13 points and six rebounds while Sara Chicco scored 10. Abigal Homan led the Sagehens in rebounds with eight and assists with five.
Caltech started the first minute hot, scoring a quick five points but from then on, the Sagehens led the rest of the game with no lead changes. The Sagehens went on a 7-0 run in the first quarter thanks to Robel, J. Lee, and a three pointer by Emily Lee to make the score 21-12 going into the second quarter. The Sagehens continued to put their foot on the gas and poured in another 21 point quarter with eight second chance points with a couple of threes from J. Lee and Homan. The score going into halftime was 42-26 in favor of Pomona-Pitzer.
The third quarter saw 14 points off the bench for the Sagehens. Robel scored six in this quarter alone, J. Lee hit a couple more threes and Kellie Au scored in the paint. The score going into the fourth was 67-44. In the fourth, Molly Pieper scored five straight points and the Sagehens cruised to a 78-65 victory.
