CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball defeated the University of Alberta 84-76 Tuesday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Cooper Bladow led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three, to go with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kyle Jasper added 15 points and five assists while
Matthew Diekmann posted 14 points and four assists.
The game remained close throughout the start, with a
Charlie Treene basket in the paint putting the Sagehens up 9-7. Diekmann later tipped in his own miss to tie things up at 19. Jasper then scored a driving layup to give Pomona-Pitzer a 32-30 lead with 3:49 left in the half. A pair of Jasper free throws pushed the Sagehens' lead to eight, 43-35, before a Golden Bears triple brought the score to 43-38 at halftime.
Sam Lind gave Pomona-Pitzer a 10-point lead, 50-40, a minute and a half into the second period. Bladow later hit a three of his own to make it 60-50, then hit two more to make it 66-58 Sagehens.
Alberta fought back to make it a one-point game, 68-67, with 7:32 left before Jasper and Diekmann traded triples. The Golden Bears came back within two, 76-74, with 2:01 to go but that was as close as they would get. Lind and Jasper hit shots before
Bryson Bryker converted a three-point play to make it 84-76 Sagehens with 24 seconds to go, as Pomona-Pitzer held on for the win.
