2025 Season Comes To An End In The Round Of Eight

LEXINGTON, VA – The #9 Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team concluded their 2025 season in the Round Of Eight, losing 0-1 to  #2 Emory.

The Sagehens applied steady pressure throughout the match, generating a handful of quality chances in both halves while receiving standout goalkeeping from Patricia DePalma and Hadley Johnson. Hannah Hong tested the Emory keeper just 65 seconds into the match with the first shot on frame, and Brooke Bailey followed moments later with another chance at 1:10. Bailey nearly found the equalizer again in the 14th minute with a driven shot toward the top-left corner that forced another strong save. DePalma kept Pomona-Pitzer within reach in the opening period, making a key bottom-right stop in the 6th minute and another crucial save at 16th minute. However, Emory broke through in the 17th minute to take a 1–0 lead. The Sagehens answered with intensity and produced some of their most dangerous looks of the match, but despite the pressure, they were unable to find the finishing touch.

Trailing 1–0 at the break, Johnson replaced DePalma in goal and immediately delivered three critical saves at 52', 56', and again at 57' to keep the margin within one. Pomona-Pitzer generated several promising second-half looks of its own. Lucia Page Sander created the first of the half in the 54th minute with a low shot on target. Taylor Marshall missed an equalizer with a curling effort wide left in the 67th minute. The Sagehens added pressure late with shots from Anjali Nuggehalli, Bailey, and Ellie Peterson, along with a pair of efforts from Hong, including a good strike in the 85th minute as Pomona-Pitzer pressed numbers forward. Despite a late push, the Sagehens were unable to find the tying goal. The Sagehens closed the match with 14 total shots, seven in each half with four on target. Emory recorded 19 shots, including eight on frame. Pomona-Pitzer's goalkeepers combined for seven saves compared to four by the Eagles. The Sagehens earned five corner kicks to Emory's four, and PPC committed just five fouls across the 90 minutes, while Emory was whistled for 12.

Pomona-Pitzer completed their 2025 season ranked 9th in Division III, had a 16-2-4 overall and 9-0-3 in conference, 7th consecutive SCIAC Regular Season Champs, and completed their furthest NCAA Championship run since 2019.
