Patricco Drops 19, Sagehens Lose 70-58 To Puget Sound

TACOMA, WA. – The Sagehens battled through a physical matchup on the road Friday evening but fell 70–58 to Puget Sound. The Sagehens cut the deficit to single digits multiple times in the second half, but a late Loggers run sealed the result.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens are now 1-1 on the season.

Avery Patricco led the Sagehens with 19 points. Abigail Homan delivered a strong two-way effort with 16 points and six rebounds, while Emily Lee added 12 points. Jadyn Lee anchored the interior with seven rebounds, and Kayla Malek facilitated the offense with a team-high five assists.

Pomona-Pitzer opened the game locked in defensively, forcing an early turnover at 9:01 and grabbing rebounds through Homan and Jadyn Lee. The Sagehens held the Loggers to just 12 points in the frame, but offensive opportunities were limited as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 12–6 at the first break. The Sagehens found more rhythm in the second quarter, highlighted by baskets from Patricco and E. Lee. Puget Sound closed the half ahead 32–24. The Sagehens  made a storng push out of halftime. Homan scored inside early, and at 1:42, Patricco drilled a three to cut the margin to 44–37. The Sagehens continued to generate stops, including a defensive board by Lee at 1:48, but Puget Sound responded with timely buckets to hold a 53–42 lead heading into the fourth. E. Lee buried a three at 5:18 to pull Pomona-Pitzer within 61–53, and moments later at 6:57, she connected again from deep to trim it to 59–50. Patricco added another three at 1:42, bringing Pomona-Pitzer back within 67–55, and Homan knocked down a jumper at 8:33 as the Sagehens continued to claw back. Despite the push, Puget Sound converted timely layups and free throws and the Loggers closed out the 70–58 final.
