Sagehens Secure 14-11 Win at Chapman

ORANGE, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo team secured a 14-11 win at Chapman Wednesday evening.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens continue their season strong at 17-12 overall and 11-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Jaden Winters, who secured a four-goal haul. Jake Lee, Chase Barman, and Zach Whitfield each also had a multigoal game and secured two goals. Indigo Lee, Darragh Flanders, Conrad Hugar, and Logan Colman each netted one in the win.

Pomona-Pitzer started off strong against Chapman with eight first half goals, scoring five in the first and three in the second quarter. The Panthers struck first, but Whitfield swiftly responded by netting a goal with 6:44 left on the clock to tie the score 1-1. Both teams continued to score on each other as neither side could find their edge over the other. Hugar, Winters, Lee, and Flanders each scored a goal through the competitive quarter. Still, the Sagehens found their lead as the first period concluded with Pomona-Pitzer ahead 5-4. Barman started the scoring in the second quarter by securing a goal during a powerplay with 5:15 left on the clock. Winters followed and netted a goal from a penalty shot with 4:09 left on the clock to widen the Sagehen lead to 7-4. The Panthers continued breaking through the Pomona-Pitzer defenses to tie the score. However, Barman secured a last-minute goal with 0:27 left on the clock to bring the Sagehens ahead of Chapman 8-7 as the first half concluded.

The Sagehens continued to play well in the second half and earned six more goals in the third and fourth quarters. Winters started the scoring in the second half by netting a goal during a powerplay and on a penalty shot with 6:52 and 4:30 left on the clock, respectively. Lee continued the momentum by securing a goal with 3:58 left on the clock. Pomona-Pitzer maintained their lead and finished the third quarter, still ahead of Chapman 11-8.

The Panthers struck first in the fourth quarter. Colman responded by netting a goal with 6:23 left on the clock. Lee and Whitfield followed by each securing a goal with 3:53 and 2:26 left on the clock, respectively, to bring the Sagehens ahead 14-10. While Chapman persisted in breaking through the Pomona-Pitzer defenses, the Sagehens maintained their lead and secured the 14-11 victory.
