Winters Nets Six Goals in 19-14 Win Over Occidental

LOS ANGELES – The Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo team defeated Occidental 19-14 Wednesday night at the De Mandel Aquatics Center.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve their season record to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Jaden Winters who netted six goals in the win. Ryan Kreutzkamp, Alden Pfau, and Max Distaso each scored two goals with Indigo Lee, Darragh Flanders, Conrad Hugar, Zach Whitfield, Emerson LaPorta, Nick Grandinetti and Alex Erickson each netting one.

Pomona-Pitzer started strong against Occidental with 10 first half goals, scoring four in the first and six in the second quarter. Winters started the scoring with the first goal of the game with 7:11 left on the clock. Both teams went back and forth netting goals throughout the first quarter. The Sagehens finished the quarter in a tie with Occidental 4-4. In the second period Pomona-Pitzer found its edge. The Sagehens continued the energy with more goals from Hugar, Kreutzkamp, Pfau and Flanders and two goals from Winters to find the lead. Pomona-Pitzer finished the first half ahead of Occidental 10-7.

The Sagehens carried their momentum through the second half and secured nine goals in the third and fourth quarters. Distaso started the scoring in the second half by netting a goal with 6:55 left on the clock. Pomona-Pitzer furthered their lead with Lee, Distaso, Winters and Erickson scoring four goals throughout the third period. The third quarter finished with Pomona-Pitzer still ahead 15-9.

The Sagehens powered into the fourth period with four more goals. Winters started the scoring in the quarter and netted his sixth goal of the game with 6:00 left on the clock. Kreutzkamp, Grandinetti and LaPorta followed suit, and each netted a goal to cement the Sagehen lead. Pomona-Pitzer finished the game defeating Occidental 19-14.
