PACIFIC GROVE, OR. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team suffered its first loss of the season with a 45-14 defeat to Pacific on Saturday night at Hanson Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-1 on the year.
Grady Russo went 12-22 with 155 yards for the Sagehens with 50 yards on the ground off of 11 carries.
Brennan Dragomer led the rushing attack with 54 yards and a touchdown while
Matthias Olson had 71 yards receiving off of three catches.
Ethan Norris led the defense with nine total tackles while
David Gorman had seven.
Turnovers were the story of the game as the Sagehens committed three turnovers in the first half while Pacific stayed clean on the turnover front all game long.
The Sagehens turned the ball over on their first drive via an interception that led to a touchdown drive by Pacific to take a 7-0 lead. The Boxers doubled their lead in the first to take a 14-0 lead before the Sagehens put together a 12-play, 80-yard drive for their first score of the night.
The Boxers added three more points from a 44 yard field goal while the Sagehens came back with a big run by Dragomer to cut the deficit down to 17-14 with 5:26 left to play in the first half.
After getting within striking distance, Pacific answered with a touchdown drive of their own for 80 yards off of 11 plays to push the lead back to 24-14. The Sagehens had a chance to score again just before halftime, but a fumble gave the ball back to the Boxers who were happy to take their lead into halftime and getting the ball to start the second half.
Pomona-Pitzer's offense struggled to find scoring chances in the second half as they went scoreless in the third and fourth quarters.
Pacific continued to add points in the second half with 14 points in the third and another touchdown in the fourth to hand the Sagehens their first loss of 2024.
