Sagehens Fall To No. 1 Endicott To End 2024 Season

CLEVELAND, OH. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team had its historic 2024 season end in the 2024 Division III College World Series with a 7-6 loss to No. 1 ranked Endicott on Saturday morning at Classic Park.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens' season comes to an end at 37-14 overall.
 
The Sagehens were led by Greg Pierantoni who went 3-5 at the plate with a run scored. Nate Jakobs had a multi-hit game as well while JC Ng, Jack Gold, Peter Savas, Cooper Berry, Jimmy Legg, and William Kinney collected hits as well.
 
Hannoh Seo got the start for the Sagehens and went six solid innings with three runs given up and five strikeouts for the no-decision. Wade Lawson came in relief of Seo in the seventh and went two innings while Eric Prough ended the game with the loss.
 
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out ahead as the away team with a sacrifice fly by Jakobs in their first at-bats to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Endicott came back with a two-RBI single to take their first lead of the game in the second at 2-1 before the Sagehens came back with a five-run fourth to reclaim the lead. Gold started the scoring for Pomona-Pitzer with a double down the line while Savas drove in another run on a fielder's choice.  The Sagehens went on to get another run off of an RBI single by Legg, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Kim to take a 6-2 lead through four innings of play.
 
The Gulls started to chip away at the lead with one run in the fifth and then two more in the eighth to cut the lead down to just one run at 6-5 entering the ninth.
 
Endicott started the ninth with a double to put the game-winning run at the plate.  The Gulls scored the tying run and then loaded the bases to put the pressure on the Sagehens' defense. 
 
A tough play up the middle made the throw home wide to try to extend the game into extra innings as Endicott completed the comeback and ended the Sagehens' season in the College World Series.
 
The Sagehens ended 2024 tied for a program-high in wins (37), the program's first-ever SCIAC Tournament Championship, the program's first-ever NCAA Super Regional Championship, and the first-ever trip to the College World Series.
