CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball earned a 4-0 victory over the Occidental Tigers in game one of the regular season doubleheader finale.
Devin Waddell highlighted the offense with three hits and a home run in game one.
Erika Rivera earned a complete game victory in the circle, earning 11 strikeouts on senior day.
Pomona-Pitzer 8, Occidental 1
Erika Rivera forced three-straight flyouts to start the day before the Sagehens got the bats rolling in the second inning. Brooke Bulls hit a leadoff double to left field before
Emily Hurtado hit a single to center, putting runners on first and third. After a strikeout and groundout, the Sagehens went on a two out rally with
Claire Sefkow hitting an RBI single down the left field line before
Devin Waddell hit an RBI single to left, giving the Sagehens a 2-0 lead.
Summer Gibson hit an RBI double to right center before
Bella Carreon hit an RBI single to left, giving the Sagehens an early 4-0 lead.
The Sagehens and Tigers went scoreless through the fifth inning, but the Tigers managed to get on the board in the sixth with an RBI fly out to cut the lead to 4-1. Pomona-Pitzer countered in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run from
Devin Waddell followed by a two RBI double from
Kylie Liu to give the Sagehens the 8-1 lead.
Erika Rivera closed out her complete game victory allowing two hits but earning three strikeouts to seal the 8-1 win.
Pomona-Pitzer 9, Occidental 3
The Sagehens struck first in game two, scoring off an RBI double from
Kylie Liu in the first inning and later an RBI double from
Devin Waddell in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers fought back in the third inning with a two-RBI triple to level the score at 2-2 before taking the lead at 3-2 with an RBI single to left field.
Pomona-Pitzer quickly found the answer, using an RBI double from
Claire Sefkow to tie things at 3-3 before
Erika Rivera hit a two RBI single to make it 5-3. The Sagehens continued to attack in the fifth inning as
Sophia Roberts hit a two-RBI double to left center to increase the Sagehens lead to 7-3.
Lauren Ziment brought Roberts home with an RBI triple to right field and later scored after an RBI single from
Devin Waddell made it 9-3 after five innings.
Devin Waddell forced three groundouts in the sixth with the Sagehens turning a double play in the seventh followed by a fly out to
Morgan Groves to cap off the 9-3 game two victory on senior day.
