Record Setting Day Puts Sagehens In SCIAC Tournament Championship

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team had a historic second round win over the No. 1 seeded La Verne Leopards 15-0 on Friday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.

A record setting afternoon for the Sagehens that tied their program record for hits in a single game with 23. It also tied a SCIAC Tournament record for hits in a single game with La Verne who did it against the Sagehens in 2018.

Outside of the team accomplishments, Isaac Kim had about the best game you can have at the plate.  Kim led the Sagehens with a perfect 5-5 performance with eight RBI, two home runs and three runs scored.  Kim set SCIAC Tournament records for: Single Game RBI (8), Tournament Record for RBI (10), Tied Hits in a Single Game (5), Tied his own record for home runs in a single tournament game (2), and Total Bases in a tournament game (14).

Greg Pierantoni had three hits in the ballgame along with Jimmy Legg, and Cooper Berry while JC Ng, Jack Gold, and William Kinney had two hits and Matthew Nishimura, Nate Jakobs, and Tanner DeGrazia had one. Hannoh Seo got the ball and turned out his eighth win of the season while only giving up two hits with no runs and eight strikeouts. Eddie Rosemont came on late for the Sagehens with three innings of shutout baseball giving up just one hit.

Pomona-Pitzer skipped the first inning at the plate and started their record setting day in the second as Kim doubled home two runs to take an early 2-0 lead.

Nishimura added one in the third while Kim came back in the fourth for his first home run of the day to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Sagehens then came back for a seven-run fifth inning that blew the game open. An error led to the first run of the inning before Kim doubled home three and Gold tripled in two more to make it 10-0. The Sagehens ended the inning after Legg singled home the seventh run of the inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead over La Verne on their home field.

La Verne decided to keep throwing to Kim and he responded with his second home run of the game to extend the lead to 13-0 while Jackson Fleming scored Jakobs on a sacrifice fly and Lateef Wakil plated the 15th run of the day with a ground out to first.

After winning the first two games of the SCIAC Tournament, the Sagehens advance to the SCIAC Tournament Championship game where they will await the winner of CMS and La Verne with game time scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Ben Hines Field.
