CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team took down No. 20 Caltech 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 8-11 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens got into a hole early against the Beavers after Pomona-Pitzer only came away with one doubles win out of the three matches. The Sagehens' lone win came at the No. 3 position as
Neil Chulani and
Ethan Lee came away with an 8-2 victory to give the Sagehens a point heading into singles.
Fortunately, the one doubles point was all they needed to seal the win as the Sagehens took four of the six singles matches to come away with a big win at home over Caltech.
Sam English earned the first singles win for the Sagehens at the No. 5 position with a 6-2, 6-0 win followed by Chulani who doubled his wins on the day with a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the No. 6 spot.
Matthew Feng kept the Sagehens alive with a three-set win after he won set one 6-4, dropped set two 3-6, and came back for a 6-3 win to set up one match to decide the winner.
Rohun Krishnan earned the clinch for the Sagehens at No. 4 singles with another three-set win for Pomona-Pitzer. Krishnan dropped the first set 3-6 and then came back with a 7-6 win in set two and carried that momentum into the third set to win 6-2 and kept the Sagehens undefeated in conference play.
