CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 23 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated SCIAC opponent Redlands 6-3 on Tuesday night at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens take a firm hold on the No. 2 spot in the SCIAC and sit at 9-11 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
A good start for the Sagehens in the doubles competition as they took two of the three matches to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Neil Chulani and
Ethan Lee got the Sagehens on the board with an 8-6 win at the No. 3 doubles while
Sam English and
Owen Kelley fell at the No. 2 spot 8-6 t0 even the match at 1-1. The deciding point of doubles came at the No. 1 spot as
Eshaan Lumba and
Matthew Feng squeezed out an 8-7 win to give the Sagehens a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to win four of the six singles matches to take the win over Redlands. Feng and English took wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots to get the Sagehens one point away from clinching. Feng earned himself a 6-3, 6-1 in at No. 3 while English followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
The clinch for the Sagehens came at the No. 2 singles as Lee earned a three-set win. After dropping the first set 4-6, Lee came back with wins of 6-0 and 6-2 to clinch the match for the Sagehens.
Rohun Krishnan went on to end the day for the Sagehens with another three-set win by the scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
