CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to No. 1 CMS 5-4 on Saturday night at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens started out winning one of the three doubles matches against the Athenas. CMS took wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles while the Sagehens won at the No. 2 position.
Alex Coleman and
Amelia Poor fell 8-3 at No. 3 while
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye lost 8-4 at No. 1. The Sagehens got their win as
Angie Zhou and
Marissa Markey won 8-4 with the Sagehens trailing 2-1 heading into singles.
Markey doubled her wins against CMS with a quick win at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3, but CMS got a win at No. 3 as
Nyakiriri Kanefu fell 6-3, 6-1.
CMS got another win at No. 4 singles after
Leticia Bazua Vazquez fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, but Pomona-Pitzer immediately got a win back as Rha won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The clinch for CMS came at No. 6 singles as Ye fell in three sets as well by the scores of 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. After the Athenas clinched the match, Zhou finished her singles match at No. 1 singles with a battle win against Lindsay Eisenman 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
