CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team came away with two wins on Saturday with a 9-0 win over Whittier College and an 8-1 win over Hope International at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: With the wins, the Sagehens improved to 12-11 overall and 6-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens started the day with a quick SCIAC win over Whittier where they swept the Poets in both doubles and singles play.
The Sagehens got out to a 3-0 lead after taking all three doubles matches.
Neil Chulani and
Ethan Lee started out with an 8-2 win followed by
Sam English and
Owen Kelley taking an 8-4 win at the No. 1 doubles. The Sagehens ended doubles with a tight 8-6 win as
Matthew Feng and
John Wehrle came away with the victory at the No. 2 spot.
It was more of the same for the Sagehens in singles play with all six wins. Lee had his opponent retired after being up 5-0 in the first set to get a win while Wehrle and
Roshan Morey won in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-0.
The final three matches went to a third set but the Sagehens came away with all three wins.
Rohun Krishnan won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-7, 10-3, Kelley won at No. 5 singles 6-2, 2-6, 10-3, and
Luke Feng with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7.
The Sagehens then turned their attention to Hope later in the day and came away with an 8-1 win. The only loss of the day came at the No. 1 doubles position, but the Sagehens took a 2-1 lead after Chulani and Lee won at the No. 2 spot, 8-6 and
Luke Feng and Wehrle won at No. 3, 8-3.
The Sagehens went on to win all six singles matches against Hope as Morey won again by 6-0, 6-0 and Chulani shared similar success winning his match 6-1, 6-1.
Matthew Feng earned a win at the No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3 with
Luke Feng winning 6-3, 6-1.
The Sagehens ended the day with two more wins as English won at No. 3 singles by two sets of 6-4 and Lee won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-4.
