Sagehens Improve to 9-0 in SCIAC with Road Victory Over Panthers

ORANGE, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team improved to 12-1 on the season and 9-0 in conference play after a 16-2 road victory over the Chapman Panthers on Saturday morning. The Sagehens had 10 different goal scorers on the day with Sydney Landauer leading the charge with a hat trick and five assists while Hannah Gough and Chloe Denhart both had two goals and two assists. Gwynn Sullivan ended the day with five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Rhyan Goozh had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. The Sagehens will return to Claremont on Apr. 17 to host the CMS Athenas for a midweek Sixth Street Rivalry match at the South Athletics Complex. The Sagehens defeated the Athenas 15-10 in their previous meeting this season, earning the road victory on Mar. 2. 
 
How It Happened
The Sagehens outscored Chapman 4-1 in the first quarter with Sydney Landauer scoring 41 seconds after the opening whistle and scoring her second of the day just one minute and 34 seconds later to give Pomona-Pitzer a quick 2-0 lead. Grace Warner scored the team's third goal of the day with Landauer dishing out the assist before Hannah Gough made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal with 5:16 on the clock in the first quarter. The Panthers were able to come up with a goal of their own just over a minute after Gough's, cutting the Sagehens lead to 4-1 heading into the second quarter. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer used a 6-0 run to increase the lead to 10-1 heading into the halftime break with goals from Grace Tighe, Chloe Denhart, Fiona Lewis, Shoshi Henderson, and Sydney Landauer.
 
The Sagehens continued the run in the third quarter as Regan Schunk, Shoshi Henderson, and Hannah Gough all scored with Schunk connecting twice to make it 14-1 going into the fourth quarter. Katherine Lin struck the back of the net with 10:01 left in the fourth to make it 15-1 before Chapman could counter with their second goal of the day. The Sagehens scored the final goal of the contest, this time off the stick of Ella Bradley with 5:12 left to play, capping off the Sagehens 16-2 victory on Saturday morning.
