CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team opened their season series against SCIAC opponent La Verne with an 11-1 win on Friday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.
 
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 12-5 overall and 4-5 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Devin Waddell who went 4-5 with three hits and five RBIs in the win. Bella Carreon and Morgan Groves also had multi-hit games, while Summer Gibson, Kylie Liu, Brooke Bullis, Emily Hurtado, Claire Sefkow, and Lauren Ziment all registered a hit. Waddell also got the win in the circle and improved to 8-4 on the year with a complete game allowing four hits and one run with three strikeouts.
 
It took a few innings for the Sagehens to get going in their mercy rule win over La Verne as the Leopards struck first with a run coming from a Sagehen error to make it 1-0 in the top of the second inning. 
 
The Sagehens came back with the tying run in the bottom of the third as Bullis was robbed of a grand slam by an incredible play by the Leopards' center fielder, but was still able to bring home Waddell for the sac fly.
 
The Sagehens went on to take the lead in the fourth off of a single from Carreon before a huge fifth inning that plated six more runs. Ziment started the rally with an RBI single followed by doubles from Waddell and Carreon to make it 7-1. Liu ended the big inning with an RBI single to center field as Pomona-Pitzer opened up a huge 8-1 lead over La Verne.
 
Pomona-Pitzer went on to walk off with a three-run homer by Waddell for her fourth home run of the season to give the Sagehens a run-rule win.
