CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team came away with a 6-3 win over Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improved to 3-4 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a great start winning all three of the doubles matches against Mary Washington.
Eshaan Lumba and
Matthew Feng started out with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 position while
Neil Chulani and
John Wehrle also won their match 8-6 at the No. 3 spot.
Owen Kelley and
Sam English capped off the doubles with a quick 8-2 victory at No. 2 to put the Sagehens up 3-0 heading into singles play.
The Sagehens went on to split the singles matches with wins at No. 1, 2, and 6 to clinch the win. Wehrle doubled up his wins on the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles while Feng made quick work at the No. 2 spot winning 6-1, 6-0.
Lumba went into a three-set battle to win his match at No. 1 singles after he won the first set 6-4, fell 6-3, and came back strong with a 10-5 third set for the win.
