Box Score NICHOLASVILLE, KY. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell in the Semifinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships 5-2 to the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon at Top Seed Tennis Club.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 6-2 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer lost the opening doubles point as Chicago took all three doubles matches over Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens started with a loss at No. 2 doubles as Nyakariri Kanefu and
Angie Zhou lost 6-3 while
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye fell at the No. 1 spot, 7-5. The No. 3 team went into a tiebreaker, but
Marissa Markey and
Amelia Poor came up just short with a 7-6 (7-4) loss.
Kanefu got the Sagehens even at 1-1 after a quick 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position followed by Rha who gave the Sagehens another point with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.
Unfortunately, those were the only wins of the day for the Sagehens as Zhou fell 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 position, and the Sagehens lost the rest of the singles matches all in three sets. Markey lost her match at the No. 4 spot by the scores of 6-4, 1-6, 5-7, Ye fell at the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 and Leticia Bazua dropped her match 6-7, 6-1, 7-5 as the Sagehens drop out of the ITA Indoor National Championships in the Semifinals.
