CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team fell to No. 1 Case Western Reserve 7-2 on Wednesday morning at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 4-5 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer got out to a good start against the No. 1 team in the nation after they took two of the three doubles matches and nearly took all three. The Sagehens started with a win at the No. 1 position as the top duo of
Eshaan Lumba and
Matthew Feng won 8-6 followed by another 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles as
Sam English and
Owen Kelley won their match as well.
Neil Chulani and
John Wehrle nearly took all three points for the Sagehens but came up just short in their match 6-8 to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Case battled back in singles and went on to take all six matches from the Sagehens to take the win.
Lumba fell at the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-2 while Feng also dropped his singles match by the scores of 6-1, 6-4.
English had a battle to try to steal the only point of singles for the Sagehens but fell in back-to-back tiebreakers 7-6, 7-6.
Kelley fell at the No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2,
Rohun Krishnan took a loss at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-5 and Wehrle dropped his singles match 6-0, 6-0 as the Sagehens fell to No. 1 ranked Case Western Reserve.
