Box Score LA JOLLA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team fell to UC San Diego 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts.
Using the Division I format, the Tritons and Sagehens faced off for one point in the doubles competition.
Amelia Poor and
Marissa Markey fell 6-2 against Pearson and Nguyen while Leung and Jorniak defeated
Angie Zhou and
Nyakiriri Kanefu 6-2 at the No. 2 spot with the Sagehens earning a win at the No. 1 position as
Lauren Rha and
Nina Ye won in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3).
Pomona-Pitzer and UCSD split the singles matches with the doubles point being the deciding factor in the match to go in favor of the Tritons. Jorniak defeated Poor at the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-3 with Vu getting another win for the Tritons at the No. 5 spot against Ye, 6-2, 6-2.
Zhou got the Sagehens the first singles win of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot followed by a loss at the No. 1 spot as Rha fell to Leung 6-3, 6-3.
The Sagehens finished the day with wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions as Kanefu defeated Nguyen 6-2, 7-6 (5) and
Leticia Bazua Vazquez won against Pearson in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next head to Cal State LA on Saturday, February 10
th at 10:00 a.m. and return home to host Westcliff at 4:00 p.m.
