Sagehens Split Saturday Doubleheader With Loss To Westmont And Win Over UC Santa Cruz

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team split their Saturday doubleheader with a 7-0 loss to Westmont and a 9-0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The Sagehens fell behind against Westmont as the Warriors took two of the first three doubles matches to claim the sole doubles point of the match.
 
The Sagehens fell at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pots as Sam English and Owen Kelley fell 6-2 and Eshaan Lumba and Luke Feng lost their match 6-3.   Pomona-Pitzer did manage to pick up a win at the No. 3 doubles as Neil Chulani and John Wehrle won their match 6-4, but the Sagehens went into singles down 1-0.
 
 The Sagehens went on to drop all six singles matches against Westmont. Rohun Krishnan fell at the No. 1 position 7-6, 6-2 while English went three sets at No. 2 but ultimately falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
 
The Sagehens also went three sets at No. 3 singles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles as Neil Chulani fell 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, Owen Kelley fell 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, and Roshan Morey fell 4-6, 7-5, 10-1.

The Sagehens came back in the afternoon and swept the Banana Slugs 9-0 to come away with their first win of the season.
 
Pomona-Pitzer started with all three doubles as Lumba and Matthew Feng won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, followed by an 8-6 win from Kelley and English at No. 2 and capped off with an 8-6 win at No. 3 by Than Lee and Chulani.
 
After taking all three doubles points, the Sagehens swept singles play with three-set wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Ethan Lee came out on top with a 7-6, 4-6, 10-3 win and Lumba won at No. 4 by the scores of 6-1, 6-7, 10-1.
 
The Sagehens went on to get wins at No. 2 singles as Matthew Feng won 6-4, 6-3 and English won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4.  Chulani and Wehrle ended the day with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Chulani took a 6-4, 6-1 win and Wehrle ended with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
 
Up Next: The Sagehens will next take on North Carolina Wesleyan on February 23rd in Rocky Mt, North Carolina.
