REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team ended the SCIAC regular season with a 21-10 win over Redlands on Saturday afternoon at Ted Runner Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens end the regular season 7-2 overall and 6-1 in SCIAC play as the Sun Division Champions and earned a berth into the SCIAC Championship game.
The Sagehens were led by
Grady Russo who threw for 219 yards with two touchdowns hitting on 18-26. Russo also led the rushers with 51 yards on the ground while
Sander Wimmer had 79 yards and
Quinten Wimmer had 63 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The defense played well again limiting Redlands to just 10 points while
David Gorman,
Omaru Konneh and
Thomas McConnell all had six tackles.
Alden Kling had a day hunting the quarterback with three sacks while
George Cutting,
Elliott Graziano, and
Ben Porter all had sacks as well.
The Sagehens struck first on the board in the first quarter after a 75-yard drive ended in a three-yard touchdown to
Quinten Wimmer to take a 7-0 lead with 3:45 left in the opening quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer added a second just before the end of the first as
Jack Susank punched in a four-yard run to make it 14-0 heading into the second quarter. Redlands got on the board for the first time in the game with a 29-yard field goal to make it 14-3 heading into halftime.
The Sagehens came out in the second half and struck first again as
Quinten Wimmer catch a seven-yard pass from Russo to cap off a 10-play 59-yard drive to put the Sagehens up 21-3 with under two minutes to play in the third.
The Bulldogs did score a touchdown off of an 80-yard strike to make it 21-10, but the Sagehens stayed solid outside of the one big play and ended the regular season with a big SCIAC road victory to secure home field advantage in the SCIAC Championship game.
