CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team fell in the Semifinals of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament 3-0 to CMS on Thursday night at Roberts Pavilion.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 17-11 overall.
 
The Sagehens were led by Paige Mountanos who had 10 kills while Samantha Grabb had nine. Kellan Hayes came away with three blocks whole Jenny Jenks had 26 assists and Corrina Benson had 16 digs.
 
The Sagehens stayed close early in the first set with CMS trailing 6-5 until CMS went on a 7-0 run to widen the gap at 13-5. The Sagehens couldn't make up any more ground in the first set as they ultimately fell 25-11 to put the Athenas up 1-0.
 
Pomona-Pitzer shook off the first set and played a much tighter match in sets two and three. Despite CMS jumping out to a 5-1 lead, the Sagehens closed the gap and tied the set at 16-15 midway through the second. CMS went on a small run to make it 21-17 until the Sagehens got within a point towards the end at 24-23, but the Athenas held off the late run and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 win.
 
The Sagehens came out to try to steal a set to get back into the match and took a 12-8 lead after a service ace by Jenks. After a CMS timeout, the Athenas sparked a 8-1 run to take over the lead at 16-13 and played from in front the rest of the set.  The Sagehens came back to cut the deficit down to one at 24-23, but the Athenas held off the Sagehens again in the third to take a 3-0 win in the semifinals.
