Sagehens Split Day One of Gary Troyer Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA. — Pomona-Pitzer men's water polo defeated Johns Hopkins, 18-10, before falling to No. 4 Pepperdine, 17-11, Friday at home on day one of the Gary Troyer Tournament. 
 
Season Impact: The results move Pomona-Pitzer to 5-7 on the season. 
 
Sagehens 18, Johns Hopkins 10
 
Logan Colman led the Sagehens in their win over Johns Hopkins with five goals and an assist, while Indigo Lee added three scores and an assist. Liam Byrne tallied 11 saves in goal to go with one steal. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Lee scored the match's first two goals. Johns Hopkins came back to tie things at 2-2, but a pair of goals from Colman fueled a 4-0 Sagehen run to give Pomona-Pitzer a 6-2 advantage at the end of the first period. 
 
Andrew Plaschke and Colman each scored in a slower second period, as the Sagehens took an 8-5 lead into halftime. Pomona-Pitzer dominated the third, with Patrick Hughes and Chase Barman each scoring and Colman adding two more to put the Sagehens up 14-7. Conrad Hugar, Zach Whitfield and Connor Sullivan each netted goals in the fourth as Pomona-Pitzer went on to win, 18-10. 
 
Sagehens 11, No. 4 Pepperdine 17 
 
Conrad Hugar put the Sagehens on the board first, scoring from the top of the zone off an assist from Nico Perna. The Waves scored the next three before Max Distaso found the back of the cage to make it 4-2. Pomona-Pitzer hung around, with goals from Zach Whitfield and Patrick Hughes bringing the score to 6-4 for Pepperdine. But the Waves scored four before halftime to take a 10-4 advantage at the break. 
 
Pepperdine extended its lead, 12-5, by the end of the third period. The Sagehens made things interesting in the fourth, with Plaschke, Lee, Hughes and Whitfield trading goals to make it 14-9. Chase Barman and Dsitaso added goals late but Pepperdine came away with the … win.
