Sagehens Fall Short At Chapman

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to SCIAC opponent Chapman 87-70 on Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center.
 
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in SCIAC play.
 
The Sagehens were led by Emily Lee who had 18 points in the loss. Jadyn Lee and Katie Drais both tallied 12 while Abigail Homan and Kellie Au had none each.
 
The Sagehens shot just under Chapman from the floor with 42.9% while the Panthers hit on 43.5% of their shots. The Sagehens hit on just 7-24 threes while Chapman hit 50% from three at 7-14. The Panthers outrebounded the Sagehens 46-28, but the Sagehens had more points in the paint with 38 to Chapman's 28.
 
The Sagehens and Panthers shot the exact same percentage from the field in the first half at 39.4%, but the Panthers outshot the Sagehens from three at 42.9% with Pomona-Pitzer only hitting 20% at 2-10.
 
Chapman jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter at 9-4 before the Sagehens came back with five straight points to make it 9-9. The Sagehens answered Chapman's baskets throughout the majority of the first quarter, but Chapman ended the first with a 6-2 run to hold a 23-16 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
Chapman widened the gap early in the second forcing the Sagehens to chip away at the lead throughout the second. Pomona-Pitzer got back within striking distance just before the half at 38-34, but the Panthers hit the final shot of the half to take a 41-34 lead into halftime.
 
Pomona-Pitzer matched Chapman in the second and third quarters on points but couldn't make back any ground heading into the fourth quarter with Chapman still holding a 61-54 lead.
 
The Sagehens got the deficit down to nine points at 70-61 with 5:06 to play, but the Panthers ended the game outscoring the Sagehens 17-12 to hang on to the win at home.
